My 78 year old dad has many health problems, type 2 diabetes being one of them. He is on many medications, including high blood pressure meds, insulin and most recently he has been taking something for his parkinsons. His creatine went from 1.8 to 2.7 in about a months time. Is there something he can do to slow this down somewhat?? He has had this nagging cough as well for about 3 months and he has been seen by a heart doctor along with his primary care physican. They put him on antibiotics but nothing has stopped the cough. What could have caused the decreased kidney function so quickly??

I'm not sure as to what EXACTLY caused his rapid kidney decline, but it happened to my dad as well. He was a type 2 diabetic who was put on dialysis for end stage renal failure 10 months ago. Just continue to make sure he goes to the doctor regularly and gets the care he needs. My dad procrasinated so much when it came to his treatment that he passed away 2 months ago from not going to his treatments the way he should! Hang in there. I know I may not have answered your question but hopefully my story helps you a little.

My Gran has kidneys problems from her diabetes and she has hers regularly checked every 3 months because it causes iron deficency anemia. For my Gran the GP decreased her water tablets from 40mg to 20mg as water tablets can effect the kidney function and she also takes multivitamins with iron which keep her iron level in the normal range and gives her more energy. This does seem to of helped her some and her kidney level has been stable for the last 9 months so it must be working. I hope your dad is feeling better soon. :)

Ya' know... It is amazing about Diabetes... I have been a type 1 diabetic for 31 years and only have minor kidney problems, but my mother is a type 2 and has been for about 5 years, yet she has worse kidneys than I do... I understand that with type 1, the problems are incredible (and I swear I've been through it all!!), but seeing my mother, grandmother, and two aunts deal with type 2 diabetes, it seems as if type type 2-ers to get these medical conditions more than type 1 diabetics, or at least faster than type 1-ers...
