Hi all,
Im on my 11th day post opp (whooop whooop) . After reading so many horror storys on the internet that almost made me back out of my tonsilectomy, i decided i must post my positive experience on here.
Im 21 years old and have suffered with tonsilitus since i was 4, having from 4 to 9 bouts a year i should have had the op a looooonnnngggg time ago, however last july i ended up in hospital with very bad glandular fever and after that my gp insisted i be put forward for a tonsilectomy.
I was like many people very aprehensive and worried about the operation, but i new it had to be done and honestly im glad i did.
They were taken out on Wednesday 16th April at 12.30pm after our long struggle together ;).
On a scale of 1-10 for pain my days were as follows:
Day 1: 2
Day 2: 2
Day 3: 2
Day 4: 2
Day 5: 7
Day 6: 5
Day 7: 3
Day 8: 2
Day 9: 1
Day 10: 1
From waking up after the operation i resumed with a normal diet plus the crisps, toast, cereals and fizzy drinks that were recommended by my doctor, it does take a very long time to get the food down but you will and it realy isnt all that bad. I also have been drinking at least 5ltrs of water a day and i think this realy helps alot.
By day 5 the majority of my scabs were off and for discomfort and pain day 5 for me was the most uncomfortable. I came off my meds at day 7 and iv felt amazing ever since.
I hope those of you that are worried about having it done manage to find my post and look forward to a positive recovery, those of you that are having a hard time with it i realy do hope that you get well soon.
My tips for recovery:
EAT EAT EAT...
Hydrate
Avoid acidic and spicy foods
All the best and good luck.:)
