I am 36 and underwent a tonillsectomy and nasal surgery last thursday. I can honestly say I feel horrible. This is the worst pain I have ever been in. I'm eating popsicles, drinking water and apple juice.
For pain management I was given Mepergam Fortis and Lortab Elixir. I haven't used any of the Lortab yet. I have been sticking with the Mepergam 1 every 90 minutes. I also have been irrigating my sinuses. The Dr also gave me Lidocaine gargle (which doesn't seem to do anything)
I have read multiple threads on this board and of course everyone is different. I have a hard time believing it is going to get worst befoe it gets better because its pretty bad right now and I have always been one to handle pain pretty good.
Any one out there with some words of wisdom please speak up cause right now I'm having trouble seeing the light at the end of the tunnel

Take the Lortab.....IMMEDIATELY....That's what it's there for! As long as you only take it for a couple of weeks, you won't develop any problems.
Your body is in shock and trauma right now and needs to sleep and heal. If you don't take the med, it will be under even higher stress than it is already.
TAKE THE MED.
Good luck.

I had a tonsillectomy on April 22 and yes certainly take the Loratab. I found I easier to swallow if I add a little water. You may also want to eat something right after taking the meds. to help with nausea. Also, the liodcane works better for me if I put some on the end of a Qtip and swab the sore spots. You wont heal well if you are in pain. Rest and drink water and anything else that makes you feel better.
Good Luck.

I am taking pain meds; I was given two different kinds. I have a very high gag refulx and I'm afraid if I start it will make me nauseas.
What were your toughest days?

Daddy'slilgirl,
I to gag easily. That is why I add water to the Loratab elixor. I take small sips of the meds. and then small sips of the water. Its seems to work for me. For some reason the loratab burns my tong and throat. The water helps with that because it washes away easier.
Day 1 was very bad, day 2 was bad, 3,4, and 5 bad too. Now I am on day 6 and I am doing much better. I still need to take the Loratab every 4 - 5 hours which is more than the recommended dose. There is NO WAY I could make it for 6 hours between doses.
I actually went to the beach for an hour in the afternoon on day 4. The beach is only 5 blocks from my house so it was not very taxing and the boys (13 and 11 yrs) really needed to see me outside. I have to admit it did feel good to sit on the shore and watch everyone enjoy life.
By day 3 I could sleep through the night (still propped up on pillows) only having to wake up once for meds.
Today is day 6 and I will make dinner tonight. The good news is that I don't have cancer. I went for the follow up today and I received the good news. I also found out why my tongue hurts so badly, it is because the Dr took a biopsy of my tongue. Ouch!
Let me know how you are progressing and remember it does get better. Boy, does that clock move slowly though.
God Bless You,
Laura

I don't mean to preach to you but your body is under extreme stress from the trauma and by NOT taking the Lortab, it's only getting worse. The Lortab would not only address the pain and discomfort, but would put your body at ease and allow it to relax, rest, and heal. You are only delaying your healing and could potentially cause other problems due to the extremely high stress levels.
Good luck.
