Hi
Does anyone know if there is some sort of waterproof shoe I can wear over my foot so it wont get wet after my surgery?? If so is there a place I can purchase it online? No way am I sponge bathing for weeks...lol. And I have very long hair which wont be easy to wash otherwise. I was thinking if the tumor is too big and she can't close the wound that I could get a shower chair and a handheld shower attachment and then just hang my foot outside of tub but I would rather not have to spend any more money on medical equipment. If I had something to keep it from getting wet hubby could help me but I havent been able to find any such thing.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Jenn

I don't know what it is called, but there is such a thing....maybe called a shower boot?? I know someone here got one...hopefully they'll chime in. I just put plastic bags over my foot and then used boxing tape and taped around the bag and leg. Worked pretty well.

I figured there had to be something. I am afraid to go the plastic bag and tape route for fear of it leaking. I will likely have a wound that is open to the bone and if any water gets on that I could get a bone infection. Im deathly allergic to certain antibiotics used to treat that kind of infection and the MD said if I got an osteomyelitis (bone infection) she would have to amputate my big toe. Im sure there is something, maybe the hospital will be able to answer that when I go on Tuesday for pre testing.

Summer,

I used lc's method, but I understand why you want something different. Others on the board said that Aqua Shield was really good. You can type it into a search engine, and actually several other waterproof covers will come up as well. Good luck!

I personally think there is nothing better than the Aquashield. It saved my showering sanity. It's like a boot.... thick enough rubberized plastic to be durable, yet not so thick that it's awkward and impossible to use. It covers your foot and goes up over your knee where it's tight enough not to let any water in whatsoever. Do yourself a favor and get one from your local medical supply company..... it's more than worth it!

Thank you Hey19 and armykat for the tip on aquashield. I found them online but I am going to check the local DME company first, if they dont have one I will order one this week so I have it for after my surgery next week. One less thing to worry about..

I used it after two foot surgeries and a broken foot. It was great! You can find it at some drug stores. If you have a CVS, Rite-Aid, Walgreen's, give them a call. My susrgeon actually provided mine when I left the surgery center after the first one so you might check with his office and see if they do this.

See...I *knew* somebody knew the name! I had heard of it but just couldn't think of it! ;)
