Have had migraines for 10 yrs. or so - had my first occular migraine in Feb. and since then had brain MRI & CAT with clean results. About a month ago out of nowhere I started getting these 'electric shocks' starting at the back of my head, left side over the top & sides of my head, facial shocks and sometimes contractions too, numbness in tongue, lips, hands, arms. Also burning sensation in arms about 3 times now. My neuro put me on Inderal LA for migraines & then Pamelor 10mg. for pain. Second neuro added Neurontin 100mg. 3x day which I started today. Symptoms are better, but still present - has anyone dealt with anything like this? I recognize the migraines & can deal w/ that, but not happy about all the meds as I feel they are masking the problem, not solving it. Am having neck MRI to check for pinched nerve this week, but am frustrated - don't want to just be on meds forever. Anyone ever have anything like this? The brain shock things are the worst!! :(

If it's any consolation, I've had the shock thing going down from my head to about the bottom of my torso. I had a pinched nerve in my neck that was helped by an operation 7 years ago. Even after that, I still sometimes get that "wake up call" lying down just before going to sleep. Seems there is nothing much my doc can do about it. He thinks that maybe, possibly, could be, related to the old impinged spinal cord. Since I don't have pain, just numbness and only about half the strength in my arms, I'm learning to live with it. I do exercises that helps me to keep what I got, rather than lose it entirely. I've seen about 7 or 8 neuros to check this out, as well as other neuro problems. Hate to say it but, can't blame doctors for knowing what they know in May 2008 but, not knowing anymore than they know.
