I mentioned how difficult taking my Mom out in the world has become. Well, about 6 months ago I found a thrift store and it's been a blessing! There's only one door in/out. There's a restroom in the event of emergency. They have a bit of everything. Clothes, books, glassware, dolls/stuff animals. And if there's donated furniture I have a place to sit. Mom doesn't have to have me right at her elbow as it's a fairly small store so I can easily keep an eye on where she is. I discretely tipped a couple of the regular clerks off too just to be on the safe side. She doesn't seem to mind it's used items. I don't know if she even understands that at this point. And with money tight, she can find a couple of things each week and it's in my budget.
This place has been great. We've been there so often she's familiar with the place once we get there. It gets her out and she seems to enjoy herself. The big stores just are not possible anymore.

Joy,
Brilliant...just brilliant! How wonderful for you and your Mom to have a place to go. I only have a minute, but my DH is home and resting comfortably and I wanted to let everyone know I'm doing pretty darn good too...now that he's back with me!
Talk to you soon,
Love Janie

Janie..... I am so happy for you and your DH. Enjoy the time you have together.
Joy.... that is a great idea. Hope I can find somewhere small close to Mom. I have been purchasing her a few items of clothing at my local thrift store. Mom spills stuff on them (bleach usually) and tends to lose them in the laundry so I truly don't want to spent a lot but she likes nice clothes. So I just buy names brands at thrift prices. Then it doesn't matter what happens to them.
