I got money in my bank account first (and it is paid every month thereafter like clockwork) and a couple of weeks after the lst payment, I received a letter from the SSA explaining when the benefit would be paid each month.
CONGRATULATIONS!! I understand your happiness and hesitancy all too well.

I was approved for disability in November 2002 and received a lump sum payment in May 2003. My Medicare began 2 years after the approval. Now, as you had an appeal, you may be moved up because the two years for Medicare would have been figured from the date your disability began.
Work with your local Social Security office and they will be able to let you know when things will happen. You will also get letters from Social Security stating when payments are expected.
No one wants to be disabled, IMO, but there is a sense of relief that you can have some family stability in your life. That sense takes away much stress and is good medicine.
Though you are disabled, do not sit still. Society can benefit from your volunteer work. There is so much to do. Think of it as paying forward. The little stipend you have from SSDI pays large dividends to society based upon what you accomplish and what you return to your community.
