OK, I have stopped the Lexapro. I was taking 5 mg. for over two years. 5 mg. is not therapeutic and I am stopping it so I can lose the weight. Since 10 mg. is the starting dose for Lexapro, I didn't think stopping would be so hard. First three days were fine and since then I have been having migraines and nausea. If anyone can please give me some hints on how to mange these symptoms, please post. I have to drive my husband to a dr. appt. and I will check this board in a few hours. I am determined not to start back on the Lexapro as I am well into the withdrawal. THanks for anything you can tell me...

Hi there! Boy, it is weird, I haven't been on this site in a long time and felt the need to get on here, and it's great because I myself just quit 5mg of Lexapro 4 days ago. I have been on it for almost 2 years also. I loved it, however, I had gained 50 pounds and cannot get it off so I refuse to do this any longer. I thought since I was only taking 5mg for a year now that it wouldn't be a big deal; but I was wrong and have been having very strange sensations. Bad headaches, nausea and dizziness when moving my head too fast. I feel so yucky. I hope this passes fast myself. Maybe we'll hear from someone else with some advice, but I would bet that we all will be different and it will just have to run it's course. Hopefully sooner than later. Best of luck to you too! Michelle

I am on Lexapro 10 mg and have been on 20 mg before. I got off completely last summer, i went from 20 to 10 to 5 mg. and then nothing. The first week <WITH OUT>any I was ok then I started getting these literally like zapping feeling in my brain. Sort of like my skin is very sensitive and everytime something loud happened or I moved quickly I would get these things I can only describe as "brain zaps" I called my dr and she said it is completely normal during withdrawl. It lasted for about a week and then was gone. I started up again a month later because I was having some issues in my marriage and am now on 10 mg but REALLY want to be off soon

Try taking 2.5mg per day for a week, then 2.5mg every second day.

Just wanted to let people who posted that things are OK now off Lexapro. Today is day 10. I just put my mind to it that enuf was enuf and really, 5 mg. was so low a dose that it just took determination. I also have not had an Ativan for two days. I will now have to work on getting the paxil weight off. Don't let ANYONE fool you............ALL the SSRI's cause weight gain. Yes, I know some people do not, there are exceptions to every rule. Again, thanks to those who posted. :)

glad to hear you made it to your 10th day off Lexapro without any issues. I've been on Lexapro for about 2yrs myself and have gained so much weight because of it. I have RSD and also taking cylbaltama. I hear it's best to go off anytype of med slowly and not just cold turkey, so I may just stay with everyother day of the 10mg. Best of luck and take care of yourselfs!

I was given a prescription for celexa last week. It is similiar to Lexapro. I took one pill and hours later felt TERRIABLE! I really did! It was so freaky, I was spacey, shaky, disoriented, my stomach hurt and got upset. I decided to not take anymore. Its just not worth it, plus I can't afford to gain weight. I gained 30 pounds in the last 3 years when I became hypothyroid and have to take meds for that. I am already battling through that. I will manage through the depression and anxiety issues somehow. Sometimes prescriptions just arent' worth it. Good luck to you all!
