Hi To All,

Does anyone know if you can suspect either an ulcer versus gastritis from symptoms alone?

Everyone reacts so differently--- the symptom for many people for both ulcers and gastritis are so close but not for me.

Most people need a medical evaluation to determine the problem?

My understanding is that ulcers cause gastritis
but not all gastritis is caused by ulcers.

About 85% of ulcers are caused by H pylori bacteria the other ulcers are caused by irritatational type medication like nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs even asprin and other things that are stomach irritants.

Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining and can be caused by many things and some does cause ulcers.
