I take mine in the morning...because it has been making me irritable, but my pdoc says that will go away with time.

Hello,
I take all my meds in the morning except for Xanax and sleep meds. I do find the Lamictal energizing, sometimes annoyingly agitating, so I'd never take it at night. But people react different to meds. My pdoc told me that I might try splitting the dosage into morning and mid-afternoon, since I tend to get much more manic as the day goes on.
Maybe others will have different experiences.
Any reason you'd want to take it at night?

janart, lamictal doesn't really hype me up. I take it in the pm. I guess I just do that because sometimes the abilify makes me tired so I take both at the same time. But I guess I do take provigil in the am too. I really haven't noticed lamictal making me neither tired nor wired I guess.

i take my abilify and lamictal right before going to bed. i haven't had any problems with either one making me tired or making me jumpy.

Oh my gosh!
I was told that the highest recommended dosage is around 300mg.
you HAVE to start off very slowly on this medication because if you go too fast, a small percentage of people get a very deadly rash on their body that can kill them.
It took months to start from a small dosage up to the 300 mg which I just reached last week. I am so happy I don't have to split the pills anymore.
I am to take one in the morning and one before bed.
I can't tell you how TIRED it makes me. I feel my eye lids becoming heavy and drowsy as i"m driving my car and if someone is talking to me, I feel like going to sleep.
It also helps me go to sleep quickly. I also take a clonapin at night with it.
so far I don't feel any different on this medication and I don't feel like it's doing anything. I feel like maybe it's just candy. LOL
My doctor said that this medication is originally prescribed for people who are epileptic and who get seizures. they found out it also works well for people with bipolar. Plus another benefit of the drug is that you don't gain the weight like you do with other bp medications.

i take lamictal in the evening and it hasn't changed my sleeping patterns. i knock out about an hour after taking it.
i was originally on depakote and risperdal and those two (or maybe it was just one of them) really helped to regulate my sleep.

I take 600 mg per day of Lamictal, 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night. I also take an Ativan with each dose to help offset the agitation (it does not seem to be working and I am hoping I can get a higher dose of that at my next pdoc appt.)
