Hello

Is anyone going thru peri or in menopause and having problems with pap smear being abnormal?

I also post on the Cervical board. They are wonderful there. But being that I'm 52 I was wondering if anyone could share any experiences they have had with abnormal pap during this period of change.

I have had 2 abnormal paps and one spira brush(on colposcopy).

All 3 reports have come up ASCUS
HPV negative for high and low risk strains.

Although the doctor stated there was no infection (none on the reports either) I have extreme trouble with external itching. I use monistat over the counter for that.

Would love to hear your stories. Just got my last result today and was told to come back in 3 months to repeat the test again.

Best,
Marie

I haven't had the abnormal paps, as of yet. (I have an appt with my GYN on Fri., so we'll see) I am in peri, though and have a gazillion other symptoms. Seems like a new one pops up every other day.

What did your doc say about the external itching? I've heard that sometimes, the hormone changes can cause your body to react to it's own "fluids" so to speak, as well as that of your partner. I know I find that I sometimes get irritated after intercourse, especially if I don't shower right away. I never had that happen before with my hubby and we've been together going on 25 years.

I have had a couple of abnormal paps over the years, but nothing has ever come of it. I've just gone back for the 3 month, then the six month and back to the yearly, and they all came back OK.

Not sure if any of this has helped, but I just thought I'd chime in and share. Best of luck and let me know how it's going. I'd love to know what other meno symptoms you've had or are having. Take care.

I also post on another board, but check in here every couple of days.

Hi cmpgirl,

GYNO not helpful with itching. She just said it was meno dryness
and to use lubricants (for personal comfort - not sex).

That is interesting that you went to paps every 3 months.

That is sort of what I am going thru now - I have to go back
in 3 months.

Yes I think the itching I get is due to hormonal changes.
I use monitstat externally and that keeps me comfortable.
GYN said that was OK.

She also prescribed a cream -combination of monitstat and
hydrocortisone but I didn't use it because the monistat seems
to do the trick. I am heavy from the waist down so I think
that is a factor in all this.

I thank you for responding. Actually your post is very helpful.
Your experience of going for frequent paps and that it just resolved
on its own gives me hope.

God bless,
Marie
