New mom here. My mom informed me that she thinks my 6 week old is taking in too much air when she drinks from the Playtex Ventaire Wide bottles. She is a gassy baby and often stops drinking to scream and then pass gas. Then she's happy to keep drinking. I have placed an order for Dr. Brown's bottles (I ordered the wide ones) but have not received them yet. Now I hear that the Avent bottles are best. What do you guys think? TIA.

Dr Browns (skinny neck) worked great for my little one. She is as gassy as they come and Dr Browns worked really well for her. Only problem, they are no BPA free. Now that I need to move from 4 oz to a larger size I am going to go BPA free and now Im considering drop ins. I would be interested to hear any thoughts on gas and playtex drop ins as well.

Hey girls,
I totally recommend the Playtex Drop-Ins. I've been using them with my ds for a year now, and we've never had any problems. I did buy the ventaire's when he was about 3 mo, just because I needed extra bottles, and I wanted to try them out. I found with those that he spit up at almost every feeding, which was out of the ordinary, so I decided to just get more of the drop-ins. As a bonus, now they make the 8 oz. liners expandable to 10 oz. which is working great for us now that ds is drinking more at a time. And they are bpa free. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I considered the drop-ins but noticed the price of the liners. They seem expensive (Playtex Brand). Do you use a generic or store brand? If so, which ones and how much are they? Thanks again!
Oh and I heard that as long as you don't heat the bottle, the BPA isn't released. Does anyone know if this is true?

Dr. Browns makes a glass bottle. That is what I switched to in light of BPA situation. Not cheap, but peace of mind rarely is.
I can't remember if its Evenflo or Gerber that makes old-school soft plastic that does not contain the BPA. One of those two fits with the Dr. Brown's inserts. THat is what we use for outings so we don't have to tote the glass all over the place. They are really cheap, too. Like 2 or 3 bucks for 3 bottles.

I think its Evenflo that makes the old school, cheap BPA free bottles. If my little one wasnt so gassy, I would have jumped at those. I almost bought BPA free Gerber bottles today, but they were $34 for 3, so I decided to keep looking.
I bought the Playtex drop in system today and am really anxious to try it out tomorrow. Dr Browns were working so well for her, Im afraid to mess with a good thing, but I think they will be ok....its nice to have a cute little design now too. If the drop ins dont work though, I will probly go with the glass Dr Browns.

Yes, the liners definitely can get pricey. I only prefer the Playtex ones because of the fact that they expand. I have used the generic brand from Wal-Mart, and quality-wise they are the same as the playtex, I've found. I live in Canada, so I think our prices are a little higher than in America, but at wal-mart here, for 100 playtex drop-ins, it is about $8, and for the generic brand (I think it's Parent's Choice), it's about $5. So it definitely makes a difference. I also wanted to mention to you that instead of going with the actual drop ins, you can also purchase the bag liners (I've only found these made by playtex), and they are MUCH cheaper. I think I paid about $4 for 100 liners. They are slightly more trouble, however because they come in this little box, and they're rolled up so you have to tear off a liner, insert it by folding the top edges of the bag over the top of the bottle, then when you're filling it, you have to adjust the bag by kind of pulling on the bottom of it, to allow for more room... It's kind of hard to explain. I'm probably making it seem more complicated than it actually is. It's worth a try though, for half the price of the liners.
I also wanted to mention, that if you gently squeeze out all the air from the liner (or drop in), baby gets much less air (obviously). Let us know how it goes!

Thanks for all of the replies.
I bought Dr. Brown's (skinny neck) bottles today at Babies R Us. They have the BPA free ones now!
New problem. She has drank out of these new bottles 6 times now and has puked at 3 of the feedings. I'm not sure if the nipples are giving her more milk than she is used to or not. Anyone else have this problem? THey came with the Infant Nipples and the next step nipple is for 3 months....my DD is only 6 weeks. And a step down would be preemie. Thanks!

Just a note - preemie nipples are usually faster than newborn.

I am using Dr Browns BPA free now too.
I thought that Dr Browns made a slow flow nipple, that was the step before the Level 1...but now I cant find it. Maybe I have been using Level 1 all along and just didnt realize it.
