Hi everyone, I would like to know from the Med Techs what are the pros and cons of the profession.
Althought I have a Business degree, I always loved Sciences, specially Biology. Anyway, I'm going back to school and I am in doubt between being a RN or MT . Please share your experiences.
Thanks!

Hey there,
I, too, loved biology and so I first studied Environmental Sciences after highschool. Unfortunately the job market was not so favourable and I realised rather quickly that I would have a harder time supporting myself in future if I chose to stay on the ecological field. I decided to go back to school in healthcare and after extensive researching picked medical lab. My reasons:
I love laboratory work after having worked in environmental labs for years.
I hate working with people and would hate nursing/x-ray tech/anything where there is direct contact with patients.
The healthcare system is in big demand for med technologists and there is no shortage of available work across Canada. I assume its the same in the US.
I am finishing my degree and during the course of my clinical rotations have had five job offers in different hospitals in different departments all in this one city.
I realise that this profession is perfect for me as I get to enjoy the analytical techniques, wet bench work and what I am doing makes a difference.
Hope this helps.

Thank you!!! MT is actually on top of my list. I went on a "tour" in the University lab just to see how a Mt/lab day of work is and I thought it was really interesting. I guess I'm in the right way
