I should have asked more questions but was out of it after surgery.
I've gone through three ulnar nerve surgeries on my left elbow in the past two and half years. First one decompression, second one medial epicondyle and most recent one decompression.
I think it's called decompression when they just remove or do something with the scar tissue around or on the nerve?
I was told by the nurse to phone the hospital surgery clinic to arrange an appointment in a week's time for a follow up. I phoned and the surgeon sees patients only on tuesdays so I am booked for next week.
I don't think I would be getting stitches out in five days after surgery? Unless it's just for a follow up and no stitch removal?
I know with the first surgery (different surgeon) I had embedded stitches that disolved. Second surgery (with new surgeon I see now) stitches that needed removing.
My arm is very painful and swollen. I keep it raised and apply ice pack. I do have dressing over the incision but she applied a tensor bandage over top of everything. I take tylenol 3's for pain.
The funny thing is I had a nerve conduction test near the end of January. It came back normal. The surgeon said no surgery because test is normal. I mentioned my symptoms are becoming worse. Figured maybe I have a neuroma and hesitantly said she would do exploratory surgery but won't guarantee it will make a difference. After surgery I asked the nurse and she said no neuroma, you had a lot of scar tissue.
Also for those who've had general anesthetic.. I know it takes awhile for it to wear off. Maybe the following is normal? My face sometimes goes beat red, goes back to normal, other times I look really pale. Other times I shiver. I assume it's the anesthetic working it's way through the body?
Typing with one hand bites, but I better get off the computer.
I will keep everyone updated.
