Hi everyone. This is my first post and hope some can help me. I'm going to the Doctor next week and very nervous. I think I have type 2 diabetes. Not certain, but it runs in my family and I have been very tired lately. I don;t go to the bathroom that much or have any of the symptoms other than that, but my feet look weird.

I'm 38 and I noticed a couple years ago my feet looked fatter. I was gaining some weight, so figured thats what it was. Since then I have lost some weight and they still look weird. I hesitate to say they are swollen because if they are its very slight and minor. They just look a little weird. Weird to the point where I won't go barefoot or let anyone see my feet. I did not have insurance til recently so I did not go to a Doctor then.

My feet look swollen and they have these red dots on the ankles that almost look like a rash, but it is not. I also have what looks like dirt or smudges on the side of both my feet. They look sort of freckly. My ankles and tops of my feet feel stiff, but not really painful. They are not numb and I feel them just fine.

Anyway, I am sure my Doctor will send me to a foot Doctor and I am certain he will think its serious, even though it doesn't hurt or effect my walking. Does anyone else have these symptoms? Is there any type of medication that will make this color and freckly marks go away and make my feet look more normal? I would love to wear flip flops again and not be embarassed to show off my feet. SOrry for the long post. Thanks!

I got a call and my appointment has now been changed til end of July. Normally, I would be happy to put it off, but this time its going to drive me crazy that I have to wait this long! I'm going to be a wreck all summer!!!Anyone have any ideas on what these symptoms can be?

Did your primary care doctor have any idea what it was or was not, serious or not? Waiting 3 months is way too long if you ask me. Can you get referred to a different foot doctor that is taking referrals sooner and takes your insurance. I'd call your primary care doctor back and tell him that you need to be seen sooner. Good luck with this.

Were you tested to see if you have diabetes?

Thats what my appointment was suppose to be. They want me to have bloodwork a few days before my appointment so they can review when they see me. My Doctor didn't make much out of my feet. Whats weird is some days they look better than others and the day my Dr. saw them they didnt look to bad.He thought it was an alergic reaction but then asked if I have been checked for diabetes. I told no but My mom has it and it runs in my family. He suggested a Dr. and this Dr. is one of the best,I just hate waiting so long.I'm in no pain or discomfort. My toes look a tad swollen and my feet and ankles are a bit freckly. The sides of my feet where my bone is have what looks like dirt smudges, but its like brusing or something. They are not numb or tingly or feel warm or cold or anything. However, in the shower they do look awful red .

I hope this can be treated so they look normal and less gross. I like wearing flip flops and I would definetly NOT feel comfortable shwoing off my feet til this is treated.

Your symptoms are exactly what happened to my friends feet. It is a type of diabetes and was explained to be an easy fix, the Doctor increased her red meat intake and all symptoms went away. It would be worth a try! Good luck

Well, even though I have dreaded the D word, I have braced myself. You've actually made me feel better. QUestion(s) How long did it take for your friend's feet problem to clear up? I'm assuming with medication it can be controled/treated. Is there anythng your friend would recommend? I'm thinking of my diet. What would your friend suggest I eat? It would be great for it to look better before I see the DR. Thanks again for your post!!!

It was my husband first wife, not really a friend, It must of been 10 years ago that he had told me about this odd thing that happened to her feet and described the same thing you had described. He explained it as "diabetes insipidus" it affects the vascular integrity, caused by lack of a certain amino acid found in red meat. The Doctor told her to start eating BEEF. He told me she started eating it about three times a week and with in a month it was gone. Are you a vegetarian? Let me know how it goes. Good luck!
