Like hot flashes, night sweats, and nausea? I guess I'm not understanding how an anti-depressant would work? I started prempro 4 day ago and all my symptoms have gotten worse.

Hi, I will say that Lexapro has helped with mood swings, and I don't get flashes any more. It absolutely did not help me with night sweats, because that is a side effect from the Lexapro. It did taper off some though. I just feel better altogether on it.

Hi Rainspirt,

I am not sure how they help with the hot flashes and stuff but sometimes they seems to. My Dr. put me on a ad and it did help but my body didn't adjust to the ad so didn't take it long.

The ad's are so different and unpredictable. They work so differently from each other and most of them take up to 6 weeks to reach their full potential. I actually took my mood swings and anxiety a step beyond my regular doc and GYN and started seeing a psych doc. He prescribed Xanax, which is more of an anti-anxiety only med. It doesn't take more than about 15 minutes to start working and you don't take it every day, like the ad's. I'm on a low dose and I only take it when I feel really overwhelmed. It has been a Godsend! You just start feeling like you can handle things. It doesn't make me "high" or anything. Just more like I'm in control again.

You have to be really good about not over-using it, because you can become dependent on it. That was one of my fears when he first Rx'd it for me. But it's been almost a year now and I've had no problems. I also see him about every 3 weeks. The therapy has really made a huge difference too. In the beginning, I wasn't sure what I would talk about, but once you get there, it just kind of all falls into place.

I don't know if this is the solution for everyone, but it has helped me, so I thought I'd put it out there. Take care.
