I am an ovarian cancer survivor of 1 1/2 yrs. I have become very depressed and anxious. My family keeps telling me I should try antidepressants but, there are so many kinds of these type of drugs; how does one even get started. I live my life worring that the cancer will come back. My legs ache so badly it is affecting my job and my home life. I just lost my sense of humor and see the negativity in everything.

any advise on the medications ?? I sure could use some expertise.

thank you. this is my first post.

Sadly wanting to be happy again.

i'm sorry that you're down. perhaps you can join a survivor support group to talk things out or hear the stories of other people and how they deal.

meds may not be necessary. i would suggest seeing a psychiatrist and letting a professional make that determination. it would be best to get a prescription from a psychiatrist, not a primary care physician. my physician gave me prozac and lexapro and both sent me into a manic state. i had boundless energy and could not control my high.

good luck!

i know and understand your feelings ive been diagnosed for over 15 yrs bp typeII and last year at 35 yrs old i was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer gleason score of 7, im still fighting that as well...i know at times it may not seem right that we get a doube whammy, but that is what was dealt to us, we have two choices #1 we can remain depressed and let the depression work along side the cancer, or #2 God made us and he even made some stubborn, never say quit type of people who are morestubborn than a whole herd of army mules you can say i havecancer, but never say the cancer has me when you do you loose half the battle

thanks for all your words of encouragement. Going to see a Psychiastrist on Monday; just to see what she says. Hope I do not have to take psych meds but if so, I'll try anything.

thanks again....(:

anti-depressants can make you feel so much better... within weeks of taking them... It would be normal to get depressed since you had cancer.... so give the medicine a chance to help you....
