It wouls seem to me to be a lot less expensive if you could test at home like is done with diabetic glucose monitors.
I beging my batter of tests today with the endo...it involves a 12 hour fast with 24 hour urine collection.I bring that sample in this a.m. and need to hang around two hours .they will draw blood...give me some glucose and then draw more blood every 1/2 hour. Then they will ultrasound thyroid
Tonight I begin fast at 8 pm and take a dexamethasone 1mg tab at 11pm...got back ar 8 a.m and have more blood drawn.
This endo is checking everything...things I haven'teven heard of before..from either Dr Shippen or Chrisler.
I believe he thinks I'b be low thyroid, possibly hypogonad, and possibly diabetic.
He did promise me though...if anything is wrong..they will find it.

Wouln't that be great if there was a home test kit. I have not heard of one. But getting T tested is much simpler than what you're doing. The fasting is for testing glucose and cortisol.

are you sure they are giving you glucose in that test and not insulin? I had a very similar test but with insulin. The glucose was given to get me out of a diebetic shock which they were inducing to see how well the pituitary gland reacted to the increased insulin (lots of hormones should be released as the body is stressed to combat the insulin crash) The goal of the test is to get your sugar level down near 30. A nurse has to be int he room with you the entire time administer a glucose shot if necesseary.

I sweated through my blue jeans. like i had been out in the rain.

Yes....today they gave me glucose after 1st blood draw....I'm not sure what the 24 hour urine specimen is for.Tonight I'm taking dexamethasone at 11pm...fasting from 8pm to 8am...then getting blood drawn again. They drew blood 5 different times today...I think cortisol is part of it...adrenals I think is why I'm taking dexa tonight.
But he did say he's checking everything that has a metabolic function...so pituitary, hypothalamus, adrenals, thyroid, testes etc.
All I know is I won't get the full report till the 27th...so that's 20 days...they must be checking everything there is to check.

it was a 10 oz bottle of carbonated glucose water....it actually gave me a sugar rush about 15 inute after drinking it...so I guess it must be an insulin resistance test.

I had everythign checked as well but didnt' have a glucose test since my blood sugar was normal after fasting
