I was just informed by my brother that a female friend that he has known for many, many years has terminal cancer. Her husband died 6 months ago and has no family or friends where she lives in SC so she basically has to die alone and beg for church members to take her an hour and a half to go the the hospital. She lives off the state because of her past health issues so she cannot work. She has two sons here in CT but because of her shady past of drugs and alcohol abuse (clean for several years) does not want anything to do with her. My brother who I share a house with along with my husband wants her to come here to stay in the basement with him until she passes. He says its half his house so I have no say. I have to say, this is wrong for him to burden us with this on so many levels. I feel for this women and my heart tugs and have no problem with her coming back to CT but have to say that this will/has already started to throw my already crumbling marriage over the edge. Coupled with what I have to deal with my daughter who suffers with depression. I am falling apart at the seams.

Any alternatives or suggestions with regards to where else she can go or who I can contact would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to look for help from hospice. Sometimes they have a place where people like your brother's friend can go and die with dignity and being cared for. And if they don't, they (hospice) might be able to set up a system of volunteers that would come and help to care for this woman, so you won't need to be involved in her care.
good luck
