I have peroneal tendonitis, and I know a few other people on here have had it. FOr me it is every time I push off when I walk. Sometimes my tendon feels like it is on fire. It huts along the outside of my foot especially behind the outside of the ankle, (by the lateral malleolus).
If I think of anything else i will let you know.
Have you seen a doctor yet?

I saw podiatrist a few years ago who gave me that plastic heel orthotic and then i went to therapy. But since then I have had a neck fusion and lower back problems, so it got on the back burner. I sprained my ankle 20 yrs. ago and then 2yrs ago. I am sure that didnt help the situation. I thought it was odd that it hardly hurts, but then out of nowhere it will throb like crazy...BAD

I got a little peroneal tendon pain from limping abnormally before my ankle surgery. I find that stretching the muscles, by wrapping a towel around my foot and pulling it toward me, like an Achilles stretch, but with foot slightly inverted (big toe in) eases it.

A few years back my foot began to hurt in late November. By the end of December it has not gone away, so I saw my orthopedic who I had seen previously for achilles tendonitis. After about three months and three visits on an anti-inflamatory, he said he did not know what it was, but to wait until later in the summer when a foot specialist would be available.

I then decided to go to a podiatrist with a local, reputable health care system. I took the first appt. available with the first podiatrist. This quack told me to wear army boots, not to mow the grass ever again and when I asked about exercises, he looked at me like I was out of my mind.

I ended up getting a reference from my primary physician with another podiatrist. I had my appt in late April. In a matter of minutes he had me diagnosed with PT. He had stand on both toes, which I did. When I tried to stand on my right foot and couldn't it clued him in. After a little more twisting and pushing with my foot, he ruled out a torn peroneal tendon.

He took over 30 minutes explaining about how the tendon wrapped around the foot and how because of the location would take a while to heal. He put me on a very strong anti-inflamatory and had me write the abc's with my foot about 4 times a day to stenghten the tendon. He also put me into a good set of orthotics.

Over the next 5 months he would switch the type of anti-inflamatory and reduce the dosage. By September, I stopped taking the anti-inflamatory. My foot still hurt a little for a few weeks due to being off the anti-inflamatory. My podiatrist said to go kick the soccer ball, run, cut the grass and whatever I wanted to do.

I still write the abcs occaisonally to keep my PT strong, and stretch my achilles to keep it strong as well.
