I've had weird head pains for 5 months now, but what's really bothering me is the brain fog. I'm finding it difficult to type right now because of it. I'm a writer and can barely string a sentence together which is causing me huge anxiety. I was diagnosed with anaemia and put on oral iron just before the head pains started. I read that human serum inhibits fungal growth but not in the presence of saturated transferrin which makes me wonder if the iron load could have triggered some candida or other fungal overgrowth. My doctor dismissed the idea & am waiting to see a consultant but I just know it's going to be one of those chronic mystery ailments. Has anyone tried anti-fungal diets/remedies for their brain fog? I already have a low carb, zero sugar diet because sugar bloats me instantly. Anyone know of any good herbals.

Get online and check out symptoms of low (or high) thyroid. That can cause brain fog and headaches.

I didn't read all of the responses, but I had something very similar and was finally rx'd with Migraine Associated Dizziness. Severe off balance, rocking sensation, pressure in head, headache behind eyes, I couldn't even go outside, it was awful. Lexapro was a LIFESAVER for me. With each increase in dosage I noticed symptoms going away. As symptoms went away I forced myself to do more...like walk around the block once until I worked myself to walking around a grocery store, etc. Now I can walk miles and be fine! I also took Topamax, an extremely low dose to help with things like florescent lighting. I am now off of the lexapro and on my final sliver of topamax. I'm so sorry your going through this, especially at such a young age (I was about your age when mine all started), but you will get through! Think posotive and keep seeing your doctor. Make them refer you to a specialist and be your own advocate. I finally saw a Neurotologist.

Hi all I have all the same symptoms you all have described. I have not been diagnosed with anything as of yet and had every test except the MRI which I am having soon. I just wanted to let you all know something that may HELP not eliminate but help your symptoms. Stop all Caffeine intake and no chocolate since it has caffeine in it, or ice cream because it can cause headaches anyway. I did this and that feeling didnt improve immediately it took like a week or so and it isnt completely gone but it has made a big difference and given me almost all good days with a few bad as opposed to all bad with like one good per month. Hope this helps some of you until we can all be diagnosed.

What you could have is a daily variety of migraine.

I started getting all of these symptoms (recurring brain fog, nagging daily headaches, difficulty focusing, difficulty in multi-tasking, etc.) 4 years ago. I went to my physician, and after a slew of testing (blood tests, antibiotics for sinus infection, CT scan for sinus infection or tumors, test for Lymes disease, etc.) and getting a referral to a neurologist, I was diagnosed as having a daily variety of migraine (sometimes called "chronic daily headaches").

Migraine symptoms fall into a broad spectrum, ranging from the very infrequent, but extremely excruciating headaches (the headaches which we generally associate with the word "migraine"), all the way to daily, nagging headaches, or a feeling of cranial pressure, and/or recurring brain fog (depersonalization). Note that there's generally a tradeoff between frequency and severity, that is, the more frequent variety of migraine symptoms are usually less severe.

In fact, hangovers are one type of migraine. The headaches, nausea, brain fog, etc. that we experience after a night of drinking are all caused by the "migraine process", which is the physiological mechanism in the brain which triggers migraine symptoms.

The migraine process is a nervous system and cardiovascular feedback mechanism which sometimes goes out-of-whack. Something triggers the migraine center in the brain (it could be stress, dietary triggers, bright lights, lack of sleep, etc.) The migraine center responds to this "stress" by sending nerve signals which stimulate the release of chemicals which cause veins in the brain to swell. This swelling in turn causes pain or discomfort in neighboring nerve cells, which in turn triggers a bigger response from the migraine center. The end result is headaches, brain fog, feeling disconnected, or even nausea.

No one knows exactly why this migraine process still exists in the human brain... it could be that it's a vestige from the "fight or flight" mechanism which people relied upon for survival tens of thousands of years ago.

I'd suggest:
- Go to your primary care physician and getting checked
out for other possible causes
- ASK FOR A REFERRAL TO A NEUROLOGIST who can help
with migraine symptoms. Your doctor may not think of
referring you to a neurologist until you ask. (Check with
your health insurance... treatment by a neurologist
is probably covered.) BE INSISTENT ABOUT THIS!

There's a VERY good book about this which describes migraines much better than I can: "Heal Your Headache: The 1-2-3 Program for Taking Charge of Your Pain". The author describes the migraine process, and presents a 3-step process for helping with migraine symptoms:
(1) If you're taking over-the-counter pain killers on a daily basis,
STOP immediately. NSAIDs can cause "rebound headaches",
which can spiral out of control.
(2) Eliminate migraine triggers in your diet:
- Eliminate caffeine
- Eliminate aspartame (e.g. almost all diet sodas
contain aspartame)
- Eliminate most alcohol, esp. beer and red wine
- Avoid any aged meat
- Eliminate chocolate
- Eliminate MSG
- Eliminate aged cheese (fresh mozzarella or ricatta
are acceptable)
- Minimize foods with "artificial flavors" or smoke flavoring
- Minimize vinegar (except distilled)
- Minimize anything with citric fruits
- etc., etc. The list goes on...
(3) In some cases, get a prescription from a neurologist
for a migraine medication. This is often in the form of
very small doses of anti-depressants (e.g. a depressed
patient might take up to 100 mg of a tricyclic antidepressant,
whereas a migraine patient might take 20 mg.). The theory
is that migraines and depression, even though they
are completely different conditions (though you may find
yourself becoming depressed over your migraine symptoms:(),
are both caused by an imbalance in the neurotransmitter
seratonin.

There are other triggers to migraines besides diet (stress, lack of sleep, bright lights, noise, chemicals or smells, bio-rythms, etc.), but diet is probably the one you have the most control over. Of course, when you look at the list of all possible migraine triggers for step (2), you'll see that it's nearly impossible to eliminate all possible triggers from your diet... you just have to do the best you can.

The good news is that you won't die from migraine disorder. The not-so-good news is that it might take months or years to completely eliminate the symptoms.

it almost sounds like chronic fatigue syndrome. Also, maybe ask your doctor to check your vitamin b12 level. Under 600 (even though they say 200) is actually low and will make you feel drained with brain fog and headaches. I went for a long time like that and by a fluke a dr. checked my b12 and now i get shots every month. They also told me to go on a diet without processed and sugary foods (yuk). The b12 was the most amazing! I am not condemning pshyc. meds but if it is a vitamin deficiency - thats an easy and safe fix(with a doctor).

Hi everyone! Just felt like I fit into this category with the same symptoms.
I've been having headaches and weird problems for a long time, now. I sure do sympathize with all of you. I wondered if any of you have your sinus's to crack and pop? It seems my eyes get more blurry and my eyes feel real tired.
I do have a fatty liver and wondered if this was causing some of my problems.
I've been told I have chronic fatique Syndrome. I went through a time that I couldn't drive a car.....it started while trying to pass a car on the interstate.....I felt like I was gonna just go out like a light or something.
I know having panic attacks doesn't help, either. I've had migraine headaches that caused me to have an aura before they came on...but these headaches act differently in some ways. The last dr. I saw thinks I have fibromyglia. But I'm sick one way or another all the time. I had to quit working because of all of the health problems. I do think since I've been going through a bad depression that it makes things affect other things as well (like, the physcial goes along with the emotional, etc.
I never feel clear headed, my thought process is messed up, too. Maybe that is related to depression. In some ways, I'm somewhat better as from panic attacks...but in other ways I'm still worried. I used to couldn't take anything
without everything made me sick to my stomach or made me feel worse.
I begged God to please at least help me be able to tolerate a medicine that wouldn't go against me....this has happened , thank God. I'm taking Prozac and the psychiatrist has me up to 50 mg. I still have the off balance feelings , but the dizziness hasn't been as bad. He wants me to try something else later....and that's scary, too. Maybe, effexor, I think.
I feel as though I have a brain tumor, too.
I pray that I can get my life back at least to be able to function normally, again. I'm not as bad as I was, but , I have a long way to go, also.
I will say a prayer for you all, I know how awful you can feel and to think this is the way the rest of your life has to be.....ugh....just don't know.....
Thanks for your support, or any other ideas.

Pokey2:(
