Hi All, Does anyone know of an antidepressant that doesen't cause you to gain weight. Losing two sons, and going thru menopause and putting on 20 pounds has taken a toll on me. I'm getting more depressed each day. The last thing I want is to put on more weight taking medication. Thank you in advance for your replies

This might not help much, but everyone reacts differently to each antidepressant. I take Lexapro and have not gained weight. However, someone else might take Lexapro and will gain weight. If you need the medication, try one that a GOOD doctor recommends. Give it a chance. If you do gain weight, you can always switch medications. Don't let that stop you for taking care of your mental health. You'll find one that works well for you :)

I've been on anti depressants for two yrs, Paxil, Lexapro and currently Zoloft.
I am actually about 20 lbs lighter now than I was prior to ever taking any AD's.
Like LJenner said, everyone is different. I can just tell you that I have had less of an appetite on AD's.

Good luck,
JB

Wellbutrin usually does not have weight gain - depending on the person. It actually may cause some to lose their appetite. I lost 15 pounds in a few months on it, but I also have a history of anorexia. I have heard of others losing weight with it also.
