I am just wondering what might be the outcome and when! My hubby has Hep.C, Chirrosis, and a enlarged spleen. He tried the combo therapy but didn't work for him. He is always tired, and in lots of pain. Also was told recently has amonia, which is causing him confusion. He had been going to specialist but they have given up hope on him. Our reg. Dr. says not much left they can do. Tells him just to live life to the fullest. We have questioned specialist and Dr. on transplant but with no real answers. No he didn't get this cause of drinking. He was in a horrible train wreck about 23 years ago.Had a blood transfusion which saved his life at the time but in return that is how he got the hep. C. Please can anyone tell me how long I am looking at before I lose him. I know no one can tell me exact but just with others at this stage how long. Thanks

was he dismissed as a transplant candidate?
Do they give him medicine to deal with the ammonia? My father in law had that problem, with the ammonia and they gave him lactalose for it...but he was quite elderly before he passed. Doesn't your (his) doctor give any prognosis as far as how much time? I'm so sorry for you both:angel:

No not really from his Dr. He just says live life to the fullest! He don't see no specialist now. He has never been checked/tested to see if he would be a good canidate for transplant. We have asked but with no response. Our main Dr. (Family one) seems to think he wouldn't be. But that is all that has been said. Thank you for responding.

he needs to go to a gastroenterologist. they can set it up to have the fluid drained. this will provide a lot of comfort.
they will also give him a prescription for lactolose. he will need to poop over once each day to get his amonia level down. if the lactolose don't work, you can get miralax over the counter and he can use both. i mix 3 tbsp lactoluse and 16 grams miralax with some juice and give it to my husband twice a day. this has worked wonders! until he starts pooping 2-3 times a day, the amonia will get worse.
good luck and keep in touch.
