--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hi everyone, i have got a sinus infection following a bad cold a few days previous. my right ear was blocked up at the time i went to the drs and i was prescribed erithomycin. my ear has got no better since starting the tablets 3 days ago and now my left ear has also become blocked.

i feel like i have dipped my head under water and my ears have failed to pop back to normal again, im due to go away in a week or so and this is really getting me down. i have tried inhaling hot water with orbis oil. my other symptoms seem to be settling down gradually but this ear problem is making me feel like im in a world of my own, its very scary.

any suggestions of what i can do?

The antibiotic will help with the infection but you also need something to help with the congestion that's affecting your ears. Try sudafed every 4-6 hours and ask your doctor for a nasal spray also. You might want to start off with Afrin but only take it for a day or two. If your ears do not respond to the decongestants call your doctor and let him/her know what's going on.

I've had a similar problem for nearly 4 months, mainly in my left ear. It's not affecting my hearing so much as driving me mad with the sticky sort of feeling in my ear(s) when I swallow and so on. My GP said it's glue ear. I've tried boxes upon boxes of sudafed and they don't work. I am now using a neti pot. I was very sceptical when I bought this but I have to say I can't recommend them enough. I really feel that using it is beginning to help. They're only cheap but well worth a try. Hope this helps and that your ears get sorted soon. We take so many things for granted don't we?
