Hi, everyone--
Has anyone experienced a sinus infection after dental work, specifically a root canal? I'm curious about others' treatments and experiences. Thank you!

Is the root canal tooth in your upper jaw?
Some people have longer roots (in the maxilla) that can be very close to, or even extend into, the sinus cavity. If that is the case, the dentist might have instrumented the tooth through the apex (not a good thing) and into your sinus cavity. You should see him again and have him take an xray of the area, and maybe get on antibiotics.

Camryn--
Thank you so much for your post! Yes, my tooth was an upper molar with roots extending into the sinus cavity. I am now on antibiotics for the sinus infection (which is quite extensive in that cavity above the tooth), but I am still dizzy, so I'm not sure if the antibiotics are working or not.
Would a normal tooth X-ray show what you mentioned...if he had instrumented the tooth through the apex? I have had an X-ray that showed my root canal tooth seemed OK (ie not infected again), but I don't know if they were looking for other problems such as the one you describe. Would that mean they have to do the root canal again? Yikes!
Thanks again!
