I'm due to have my tonsils taken out next Monday - May 19th. For anyone who has had a tonsillectomy I was just wondering what state your tonsils were in on the day of the op? I've had tonsilitis on and off since Feb. The last 2 weeks I have been feeling really good - for the first time in a long time, but this weekend they have swollen up again with white spots. I am going to see the doctor this morning to see what she thinks. Thanks in advance for any advice

Jane, my tonsils were chronically infected. So even though I wasn't experiencing full-blown pain and sickness when they were removed, they were still swollen, diseased and apparently full of pus. Yes, lovely but you asked. :D

Nice! As you said...I did ask! Was just slightly worried as my doctor said that they wouldn't operate if I had an infection which would mean they may never be able to take them out as my tonsils are always swollen and pretty much always seem to have white spots at the moment! Saw the doc yesterday and she has given me a double strength dose of antibiotics and told to take week off work (I teach 4 year olds). Keep your fingers crossed I will be alright for the op next Monday - I want rid of these tonsils!!

Jane, that would just be awful to have it postponed when you are so close. I had to postpone my first attempt since I started having heart palpitations. Couldn't get surgery until the source of that was figured out (hormones ).
I'm rooting for you and look forward to reading your experience. :)

My tonsils were chronically infected -- never had a fever or was sick, they were just always full of that nasty white stuff. Up until the day they were removed.
