Just curious how to limit transmission? Does anyone have experience with having sex without passing it on to others? I want to eventually have sex again but I'm unaware of how to go about it without passing herpes to my partner. I have HSV-2. Thanks ~Pam

You can try to limit transmission a few different ways, but there is no guarantee:

1. Take valtrex or other anti-viral suppressively. This reduces your chance of an outbreak as well as viral "shedding" even when you don't have an outbreak.

2. The infected person should wash just prior to sex and the h-free person should wash just after sex.

3. Never have sex during outbreaks.
