View Full Version : Stress Fractures

On the Nuclear Medicine Consultation results letter:

Increased delayed activity is seen involving the periosteum of both tibiae.

There is focal increased activity involving the right mid-tibia posteromedially.
Increased activity is also seen involving the left distal tibia posteromedially.

IMPRESSION:

1. Bilateral stress periostitis. [shin splints]
2. Bilateral stress fractures as documented above.

So, it turns out that I have stress fractures in both of my legs, and, as an afterthought, those shin splint things you hear people talk about so often and usually incorrectly.

My advise to folks.

Take it easy if it hurts. Talk to your doctor. Listen to your body. Do NOT go too fast, or too far, too soon. 10% per week increase in speed or distance.

At the short end I'm off for 12 weeks now. If it gets bad I'm at 6 months.

No running, no biking, no spinning (argg). I can't even swim without using a pull buoy for a bit.

I'll find out more from the orthopedic surgeon when I meet up with them later (waiting for an appointment now).

<Very> frustrating though for sure.

Aw, that's no fun. Good luck recovering.
