I have been enjoying large portions of some coconut cake http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif. I know pecans and regular nuts can trigger OBs but I never thought coconuts would have that affect. This could just be a continuation of a previous OB. My systems had been cleared for about a week prior until I started eating the cake and noticed some irritation again. Anyone experienced this?

Personally I hate coconut so it wouldn't be an issue for me. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif But different substances can trigger OBs in *some* people. One of the common herpes websites out there lists coconut as being higher in arginine than lysine, so it could be a trigger food for some people since arginine can often trigger OBs. That's the problem with nuts in general -- high in arginine and low in lysine.
You could test it scientifically by stopping all forms of coconut (meat, oil, etc.), wait until you're OB-free and then eat a bunch and see what happens. I did this twice with a supplement called SAMe (great for depression and arthritis) to find out for sure if it was causing OBs. It was -- like clockwork. I wish the weather was as predictable. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif Too bad because it really helped my depression.

*backs slowly away from the cake* lol
Not only will H hamper my sexual/relationship life, but now I can't even enjoy all foods. I LOVE to eat!!! It was so hard for me to give up cashews and almonds, but now I have to back away from the cake. It definitely won't hurt me, but very unexpected. I'm almost sure it was this because I've been eating so much of it these last couple of days and was fine prior to. Ooo well, this is the next food that gets knocked off the list. I'm starting to really realize the important of suppressive therapy - just have to wait until I can afford them.
Thanks TOI4

I'm sory to hear that. We cannot win for losing. I really hope a CURE is on its way very soon. Maybe more exposure so more funding can decrease the cost of drugs. Supression is great but a cure is heavenly. I might not ever live to see that http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif

Aw heck, if the stuff is a religious experience for you, at least test it a couple of times to be sure you really HAVE to give it up!!

Um...maybe you mean "a cure is on its way very soon" not "a virus"? LOL http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/tongue.gif Actually I've been on a mixture of vitties (C, B1, B3, B6, plus zinc and magnesium) and amino acids (phenylanaline, tyrosine, glutamine and 5HTP, a form of triptophan) that I *think* has been helping the depression. Suffice to say my life has been such in recent months that I would have expected to be very depressed and I haven't been since taking this stuff. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I did mean cure, typing too fast without rereading. That is good vits have been beneficial for you. I was thinking about taking Olive Leaf Extract, but you can never know how well vits will be in regards to H. I guess it does not hurt to try.

I feel sorry for both of you! I've heard about chocolate, nuts and cheese triggering OBs, which sucks because I love all of them! However, I haven't changed any of my eating habits and have been OB free so far...
Not to mention I'm on BC pills and shave my bikini line regularly...
I'm like a walking OB waiting to happen! LOL
