TheOneInFour 03-24-2003, 09:33 PM If you're still worried about herpes, avoid cortisone or steroid creams. But we're not medical professionals here and we can't give you a diagnosis. If you're still concerned about herpes, you need to get a diagnosis by a doctor. 1in4 [This message has been edited by TheOneInFour (edited 03-24-2003).] tylergibson 03-25-2003, 04:20 AM suppose the itching I have is from herpes..would lamisil help it?if it goes away from lamisil does that rule out herpes/besides the chance luck that the itching was going to go away on its own anyhow? george52806 03-25-2003, 10:04 AM Have you tried Blue Ointment? tylergibson 03-25-2003, 12:53 PM no..but that doesnt have anything to do with my question. toughspot 03-27-2003, 01:20 PM t., I can appreciate the mental stress you're experiencing about what you've got. Been there; done that. Certainly you can get some advice here but no one can provide you with the type of information and assuance you are in need of. That's why there are doctors; you really should go visit one if things aren't clearing up for you. You should also remember that herpes is only one type of skin irritation and unless you've got "classic" symptoms you're shooting in the dark by trying to diagnose yourself. Also, you may well need to go see a good dermatologist if things don't clear up and your primary care physician can't get to the bottom of things. An infectious disease specialist may be a good person to see as well but bear in mind that if it's a skin irritation that isn't caused by an infectious disease they may be of lesser help than a dermatologist. toughspot 03-27-2003, 01:22 PM As to your ? re:jock itch I can tell you from personal experience that you'll want to get an anti-fungal cream or spray. I always found that Tanactin (sp?) worked well for me. tylergibson 03-27-2003, 01:53 PM thanks for the reply, but I've recently read that fungal jock itch usually isn't the scrotum, and that it is usually eczema-which would call for cortizone cream. But then again oneinfour on here said not to use that if it might be herpes, so I'm not sure what to do http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif TheOneInFour 03-27-2003, 02:02 PM Well you could try it and see if it gets better or worse. If it's herpes it could get worse, in which case stop it right away, tell (and show) your doc and get him/her to put you on an antiviral drug to see if it gets better. Or just try an antifungal without the cortisone and see if that helps. I think at some point, if you're not going to go by what the doctors are telling you, you're going to have to take a chance and try something. A non-steroidal antifungal seems like a fairly safe bet. If it clears it up, you'll know it's probably a fungal condition of some kind and you can take that information back to your doc. Good luck! 1in4 badangle03 04-01-2003, 02:29 PM dude just go to the doctor and get it looked at it just might be jock itch and then you will not have to worry about giving son=meone else hrepes if uyou got herpes okay so go to the doctor. ------------------ sara ward |
