I posted something similar to this before, but it probably got lost in my very long post http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'm just wondering what triggers a genital HSV1 outbreak? What can I do to be proactive? Anything I should avoid? Any responses would be much appreciated.
Thanks http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi Lamyg,

We don't always know what triggers OBs and as far as I know the causes are pretty much the same between HSV-1 and HSV-2. Stress is probably the biggest cause, whether it's emotional upset or being physically run down. It varies with the individual. For some people certain foods that are high in arginine (an amino acid) can trigger OBs. For women, hormones can trigger them and OBs can happen just before your period. Friction can trigger OBs too, so lots of lube during sex is a good idea.

Check out the Resource Links in this board, especially herpes.org which has some great articles about how to keep your health and lifestyle optimal to minimise OBs.

Good luck! Let us know what works for you.
