Hello Unashamed,
I am not sure is there is really such a thing as a "high viral load". When I was diagnosed, my viral load was 3.2 million and was considered by my doctor to be low. I was also told that the viral load is not neccessarily a test to worry to much about. It tells the doctors how much of the virus is in the blood stream.

As far as I understand it, the viral load is mainly used during treatments to tell the doctors if the treatments are working. If your viral load lowers during treatment, then the meds would appear to be working.

Hope that helps a little!

CClay?? hope thats right stated the exact same thing that I have learned.

The only thing I would add is that to be considered a responder to tx you have to have a 2 log drop at month 3 of treatment.

Example; I started tx w/23million VL and at month 3 was 0 undectable...so I kicked up my feet and did happy dance!

I was required by doctor and insurance company to be at least at 232,000 by month 3 to continue.

I hope this helps!
