Hi there,
I was just told by a trainer with 50 years of experience to not carry a school bag with weights, it could compress the vertabrae, which is not good for the spine.
It is also important that your calcium and iron are in range, your thyroid should be in range, plus the medications that your taking could cause bone loss.
I believe support and love and information is the best medicine of all in this forum.
I pray that everyone will achieve success in increasing health.
sincerely

Hi Indersonu: I was told the same thing about weighted vests, but I thought the Dr was saying that because I *have* disc and vertebral probs. A backpack would be similar except that the weight isn't evenally distributed around your entire trunk, it would be distributed across your shoulders and upper back.

Indersonou-Is your trainer against weighted vests also?? Wouldn't that be like the backpack with books or weights? Of course, it would be a little different , because you could distribute weight front/back. But, I wonder if his theory about compression would include a weighted vest. Did you ask?
Yes, you are soooo right

Hi there,
I think weighted vests are ok, I was recently diagnosed with osteopenta. However if you have fractures. I wouldn't use any vest.
the walkvest has evenly distributed weights which are ok for more people. The walkvest is made for older people at walkvest.
I asked two doctors about the school bag, eight months ago, I had a normal bone density, now osteopenta which is due to chemo induced meno, I take synthroid, nexium and heparin for a dvt in my leg, and I have been walking every day minimum one hour.
sincerely
