So...my boyfriend and I got together in August, and sadly he was sent to Iraq not even a month later (he's a specialist in the U.S. Army). Even though our relationship was young, I agreed to wait for him during his 18 month tour. Its been around 9 months since he left (though he did have is mid-term leave in Jan.) and the effects of being over there have started to wear on him, and I'd bet my life he's suffering from PTSD. Since Feb. and increasing in conflict since then, he's become quite good at making me feel unloved and unworthy of his time. he's been accusing me of cheating, telling me he's not sure about us, or whether or not he wants to be with me, established a relationship with is ex-girlfriend and another girl. Now not only had he begun relationships with them, he taunts me with the fact that they are "beautiful" and "like him SO much" and he's not sure if he wants to stay with me because the grass might be "greener on the other side". Now, I've fallen in love with this man, but it seems he's fallen out of love with me. I don't know whether to call it a failure or blame it on mental illness. Where do I draw the line and say 'enough is enough'. He's an amazing guy, with a lot of amiable qualities, but I've still got 9 more months to wait for him, and I'm not sure if our relationship and myself, can handle that.

Hello Cal,

This seems more like a relationship question than a PTSD related one.

May I ask what makes you think that he has PTSD?

Other than that, when in combat, one of the rules of thumb is not to concentrate too much on family or significant others.; nevertheless it is still done. In conversation with the other soldiers, many subjects are brought up and relationships are usually one of the hot topics. It just may be a matter of "too many cooks spoiling the broth."

Take care.

Respectfully,

Phoenix
