43 y/o male with Insulin Resistance - thought I was doing well but now I wonder.
Dr says to lose weight (very hard because I am physically fit) but I'm trying - eating the right stuff 6 little meals/day (half a wrap and vegetables or cheese and edamame, maybe peanut butter @ night) and lots of water - I take glucomannan, ALA, cinamon, bitter melon, apple cider vinegar, niacin, magnessium, chromium, and flax seed oil with morning and evening meal - I exercise 5 to 6 days a week (cardio 30 minutes twice/day) and occaisionally lift weights - I am VERY active physically in my job and I am in good shape
I have been @ same weight (+/- 3lbs) for months - go on vacation and gain 3lbs back but when I get back I get right back into my routine and BAM I lose 8lbs overnight - it stays off for about a week and then creeps back up to the norm - that goes on for another week and then it starts to creep up - Today I am back to where I was a year ago and the only thing that I have done differently is to eat more frequently (every two hours instead of three) but I have been doing that for 3 weeks so it's nothing "new"
This is not an issue of vanity - my Dr says if I can lose some weight my blood sugar will stay in balanace easier/better and of course I do feel better. - Dr hasn't had me start checking my sugar daily just fasting every 6 months so I'm not totally sure what's happening with my sugar except when I feel bad and those "bad" times are less frequent now that I am eating every couple of hours
Am I doing something wrong? I guess to really know how I am doing I need to test my sugar but Doc says I don't need to do that yet, "just keep doing what you're doing" so weigh is my only measure of success/progress
Am I crazy for worrying about this?
