2 times this week I went hypo waking me up with the sweats and shakes...Numbers 3.5 mmol and 3.8 mmol
Insulin before meals (rapid) and Levemir 55 at night. Dr lowered it to 42 at night now. Said if you go low and then high in the morning which I do, you lower the insulin at night....HUH????
I have real bad highs in the morn that keep climbing until around noon and then sudden drop. I take 8 units in the morn. 10 at lunch and 18 at dinner....He also wants me to eat more carbs and protein ...HUH????

I have put weight on since being on insulin and won't eating more carbs make me gain more. Is this correct to lower insulin at night for a hypo ...???

PLS any thoughts on all this would be grateful...

Hi twokatss,
I take Lantus and my Endo told me to take it at night and I had the exact same problems you are having. So what I did was swtiched it and now take my long acting in the morning. That way I wake up with normal blood sugars and don't have reactions in the middle of the night. The reason that your blood was so high once you woke up is because you had a reaction and your liver dumped out its glycogen stores, which then need to be replenished with carbohydrates. As diabetics we need food that will stick with us for longer periods of time...hence why you've been told to eat carbs.
One quick thing...if you have not been diabetic for a long time talk to your dr. before swtiching around your insulin. I've been diabetic for 25 years now and am comfortable changing things on my own.
Best of luck.
