Are there any truly hypo-A breeds out there? Looking for first-hand experience.

I need to know. My daughter is driving me crazy!! ;)

TIA

dogs that grow hair are better for allergies. Poodles, Bichons, maybe wheaton terrier. Do not get a mix like a labradoodle if you are trying to deal with allergies. You can call around to some breeders and see if they would let you try a dog for a week or so. You can call and explain the situation and visit their house and have your daughter play with the dogs. See if she reacts. There will still be the responsibility of bathing and having the dog professionally groomed (unless you want to learn ;) )

I know some people just get allergy shots so they can have their pets. I'm a poodle person... love the non-shedding breeds.

Silky terrier. I had one for 14.5 years, never had an allergy problem. Be leery of their temperament, though. Mine was quite aggressive, while others I knew were sweethearts.

Thank you!

Anyone hear anything about a Westie, Norfolk, or Cairn terrier?

Maltese, Poodle, or mix Maltepoo (sp?), Yorkshire Terrier....though I wouldn't consider a very small fragile dog like the Yorkshire with children as they are very easily injured. I am allergic to dogs and have had no problems being around any of these breeds. You should talk to the breeder, shelter, or whoever you get the dog from to work out a trial period to see if your daughter is allergic. If she is then they need to be able to take the dog back. If you work this out with that person before you take the dog home they will be prepared in the event you need to return it.

My daughter's friend just got a Morky--Maltese/Yorkie. Very cute but *very* small.

My daughter is 12. We are going to wait until she's through with her shots in 2years.

She may also grow out of some of the allergies. I'm not completely against mixes especially if they are pound pups/rescue... but you really don't know what you are getting with one. If you going the most non allergenic way..

A rescue may be more willing to work with you and your daughter on trial periods.. Most want the dogs back if you can't keep them.

Schnauzers are great if you have allergies. They do not shed...;)
