Hi all,
I'm keen to understand the possible causes and tretment of an embarrassing condition that has plagued me for years (I'm 36 now and have this since my early 20s)
I normally happens if I've eaten a biggish meal (before or during an evening with friends). I will notice after a few drinks (normally, but not always, drinking lager or red wine) that my face startes to feel hot and goes red. Mainly cheeks, neck, shoulders, palms, elbows, top of the chest and temples. Not normally the area around my eyes or my forehead and it's just redness, not weals.
I can feel my heart racing uncontrollably at the same time, and I snore horrendously when I go to bed. The final symptom is that I can 'taste' my breath, very bizzare.
Next morning, all gone, but the embarrassment of the previous night is enough normally for me to leave early or stop drinking altogether.
These days I rarely eat big before going out for a drink, but as I go to many client meals that is difficult.
I never came across anyone else with this until a couple of years ago at a wedding, where another guest had exactly the same thing, exactly. Unfortunately I didn't get chance to quiz him on the subject.
I've done some investigation into rosacea, hives and other similar disorders and nothing quote covers what I experience. I'm keen to understand if anyone else has suffered a s similar thing, and if so how they have been able to control it.

Could be an allergy to sulfites. Have you tried taking an antihistamine before drinking?

No I haven't, and will get the opportunity tonight to 'test' a remedy. Any specific kind of antihistamine (I take Clarityn for my hayfever)?

You can certainly try that one if it works for you with other allergies.

Well, tonight I can report I took one clarityn before going out and you know what? All good, in fact, I felt cold where I'd normally feel hot. I will work at this and let you know how I get on>
For now, antihistamine before drinking!!!!!!!!

Wow I am glad that antihistimine worked for someone before drinking. I happened to have benadryl before I had a little bit of wine and my face still got red and hot. The symptoms weren't as bad as they could be but still they happened. I just think drinking is not for me. Glad it's worked out for you with the antihistimine.
