If you've been exercising a lot but not losing any weight...
Do you own any tight pants or skirts? Have they gotten any looser? If you exercise a lot, you may lose fat but gain muscle, which means your weight would stay the same. A tape measure would be the best way to check for sure, see if your waist and hips have gotten any smaller.

I agree! Many people get into better shape and become slimmer, but don't necessarily lose the weight. I'm sure your thyroid makes things tricky! Does your medication help with this at all? If you are feeling that you aren't able to lose weight even when taking your medication for your underactive thyroid, I'd talk to the doctor about it. I know some people with this condition who were able to lose weight once they got their medicine at the correct dosage.

If you are sweating, breathing hard, etc you are doing the right exercises. If you aren't breathing hard, maybe you need something more demanding.

Hi Pursie. I have been dealing with hypoT for over 20 years. My levels tend to fluctuate around on me and so it takes a lot of effort and testing and med adjusting to stay optimal. I have learned over the years that I have to eat such that I stay balanced and even throughout the day - no sugar spikes, no hunger crashes etc. As such, I eat only fruits, vegetables, lean meats, whole grains, non-fat dairy and good fats like nuts, olive oil etc. Nothing fried, too spicy, packaged or processed, or anything with lots of preservatives in them. And - no sugary stuff. A little bit of Dark Chocolate is OK. I eat small mini meals 5 times per day. An expample day would be oatmeal with dried fruit and nuts and a glass of milk in the AM. Fresh fruit and yogurt smoothie with wheat germ at about 9:30 am. Lunch at 12:30 with lots of veggies and some protein and fat and milk (ie salad with veggies and chicken with some wonderful dressing). Snack at 3:30 of raw veggies or pita triangles with white bean dip. Dinner: Main dish with two veggies and fruit and milk. Again - small portion so you aren't hungry but you stay balanced throughout the day. I have managed to maintain my size 6-8 body quite nicely eating this way over the past 20 years.
I also exercise 5 days per week with Golf on the weekends. This helps tremendously too. I do treadmill and elliptical at a pace that I can still talk but am definitely sweating. I then do at least 3 days per week of serious weight and strength training. This is a combo of machines and free weights and circuit training. I LOVE it.
Being optimized on your thyroid meds definitely helps but it is not a magic bullet. We have to do all the right things even more religiously than a normal thyroid person. Hope this helps.

I love to buy the lean sirloin ground beef to grill into healthy hamburger patties. Just try to buy any kinds of lean meats for your red meat that you need. Some of them are very fatty! Spinach leaves are also iron-rich, so you may want to have a healthy side salad with plenty of dark leaves and a light dressing.
Fruit is always a healthy snack! I also love to eat baby carrots with a little bit of reduced fat ranch. A small handful of almonds is also a good snack. Just don't eat too many of them or it can add in a lot of calories even though they are good for you! It's best to get the natural, unsalted kinds as well.
Sounds like you have a good fitness routine down. You can always add in a little weight training with using light dumbbells. My nutrionist taught me that cardio exercise will burn a lot of calories when you do them, but weight training will keep you burning calories throughout the day instead of right then. So it's a good idea to mix it up and do both!
