Hi ladies, sorry but I have a question that may be very silly and slightly TMI but I need your advice...
We've just started our first IVF (this is the first anything we're doing, so still learning). On my protocol, right at the top (i.e. the days before I even start Lupron), it says 'safe sex'. So we've been using protection. And actually since starting our IVF as we're no longer DTD for baby-making, suddenly the spark is back in our love life and everything is perfect........ except, suddenly I'm wondering, now that I have started Lupron (Lucrin in my case) should we be abstaining?
The doc/nurses never said anything, and the protocol is not very clear about what to do once I started Lucrin... so now we're worried that we're messing up our cycle by DTD even though we're careful about using protection. What do you think? I am really worried we're doing something we shouldn't be doing... and I am embarrassed to call and ask the nurses on the phone. Thanks for your help!

Hi Hazel!
I'm so excited that your cycle has begun! I can't wait to follow your progress. :D Regarding the BD while on lupron/lucrin, it is perfectly fine as long as you are using protection. I know it seems weird to have to use protection when you are doing something as involved as IVF to get pregnant, but there is some risk of birth defects if you conceive while you are taking the lupron/lucrin injections. So, they tell you to use protection during that time just to be safe. There is nothing wrong w/ BD'ing right now though. In fact, if the spark is back, I say enjoy every minute of it. :D It can only help relieve stress & bring you & DH closer during this highly stressful time. It won't harm your cycle, & in fact may help on an emotional level. Not to mention, once you trigger, you will have to abstain for at least 3 weeks, maybe longer (we had to abstain for 6 weeks), so I say get it in while you can! :D;):D

Yep I agree with Holly, you can BD on Lupron, just use protection because you can still get pregnant and it has been known to cause birth defects. I was on a lupron like drug for 5 monthes and we had to use protection the whole time :( and also once I got my BFP from IVF we had to abstain the whole first trimester :) and now the whole third trimester so I say ENJOY it while you can. :angel:AimeeM

Hazel, I think it's great the spark is back! I have always been told BD is fine right up until trigger (with protection of course). Personally I always found it too uncomfortable after stimming for a few days so I agree with the others... Get it while you can girl!!!! And have fun... after your baby(s) come in nine months I'm sure things will change in the bedroom more than we could ever imagine! :) :) :)

I agree with everyone, its definately ok to BD and Kari is so right when she said get it while you can as it may get to uncomfortable, it actually got a little painful towards E/R time for me. Wishing you all the best.

Hazel, of course I will be here for you. You were a great support throughout my cycle & I want to return the favor. I just read in another thread that your IVF was slightly delayed. I'm really sorry to hear it. I know first hand how disappointing that can be. But your time will still come & that bfp will be yours. Hang in there. Can't wait to read that your cycle is started!!
