Hello Spiney Friends. Just checking in to see how everyone is doing? I cannot say that my pain levels are any better, but I think that my acceptance is becoming a little more realistic. I'm still waiting to go to U of M in early June, and I think that I'll just wait things out until then, hopefully they will have some answers, or at least get me some better pain management. I bit the bullet this weekend and took my kids camping and mushroom hunting, they really enjoy that, as I did also when I was able to walk for hours without any trouble. I made it about an hour with the use of a cane, and many breaks, but it was still nice to get out in the woods and enjoy one of the things I hold near and dear to my heart. I was also fortunate enough to own a power inverter, so I was able to run my heating pad not only in the trailer, but also in the truck on the way home, what a blessing that was. We didn't get too many mushrooms, but it was still nice to get away, and I'm sure mama appreciated her quiet time also!

Steve, that's so great that you were able to get out with your kids like that! You're continuing to enjoy them and make memories for them within your limitations, which is exactly what we back patients have to do. Life doesn't stop, it just needs to be modified. Good for you!

I love my heating pads, too. They're almost as good as my meds! I have one extra long one upstairs, one downstairs, and one that I leave at church. I have a special chair there and sit in the sound room to run the PowerPoint, etc., so I can use my heating pad and move around as needed. Acceptance and modifying go a long way to being a part of things, huh?!

I am glad that you enjoyed yourself and it probably mean't the world to your children. I am sure the trip was a welcome distraction from staying at home with the pain staring you in the face.

Hey Steve,
My kids are older and believe me when I tell you that the memories you are making will be with them forever. My kids are always saying to each other..."Remember when we did this? Or went there?" When your kids remember that trip they won't even remember the cane or heating pads, they will just remember that Dad cared for them so much that he did these things with us. I hope you get some answers and relief when you go for your appt in June. Keep us posted.
