I was taking regular Luvox 300 mg per day and when I went to the doctor the other day, she said that there is now a Luvox CR they have come out with now and she changed me to it. I started taking Luvox 300 mg about a year ago after trying many of the others (Anafranil, Prozac, Lexapro) and I have gained 20 pounds!! My doctor just recently put me on Lamictal and I am not sure how that is going to work either. I have the constant racing thoughts of "what if" on and off throughout the day and check the things constantly. I also take Ativan as needed for my anxiety. I am really tired of the "what if's" I think about all day. Any ideas on how to lessen these thoughts? Thanks for your input :)

hm, well I have a lot of "what ifs" and they're mostly along the lines of "what if I give into this compulsion/ urge" etc but I think what sort of helps is thinking about those what ifs in detail. in fact, some books, (namely "Getting Control" by Dr. Lee Baer) has a chapter with a technique where you have to record your voice saying your worst fears over and over...like "what if I forgot to turn off the stove?" and then your house will burn down and so on so forth....you need to listen to the story you tell yourself over and over, a few times a day, and this is supposed to really work. It's a GREAT book over all. I think it's one of the newer ones. I can't describe this particular therapy in detail as I've never tried it, but it's definitely worth a shot. I think I may look into it actually.
I was on Luvox quite a few times in the last several years, and loved it! I'm thinking of going back on it. what's this Luvox CR? what's the difference, do you know?

Dear i Love Turtles and Horror:
I too have OCD and have been on Luvox for about 11 years. I used to be on the brand name Luvox but they did away with the brand name several years ago and it was only the generic (Fluxoxitime - or something like that, can't remember off hand)..which I have been taking.....since that changed....I was just at the dr. also the other day and he also showed me the Luvox CR (which is the name brand)..he explained that if you take Luvox 2x per day you can take the Luvox CR does 1x...I take 200 mg of Luvox but I take it 1x a day....
As for the what ifs....well, I go for CBT and it really helps....you have to learn to exaggerate the worst scenerio....that is the only way to really get rid of the what ifs.....
