Taape-did you get in to see the new endo? Did the doctor have a plan for you? Will you be starting any treatment? I am hoping that you will get your wish to start back on forteo. Let us know how you are and what the new doctor said. Hoping the best for you:)

Osteoblast,
Thanks for asking. I had my DEXA scan on Monday and I'm waiting for the results.
I put off the app't with the new endo until next month because I knew that I wouldn't have the results of the DEXA back in time this week.
I'm interested in seeing what the old endo recommends after seeing my results. I'll let you know.

Best of luck with the dexa results and also with your new endo. Let us know how it all goes :) On your list of treatment options if you can't get the forteo , what are you going to ask about? Are you at all considering evista or hrt. I would never have thought I would do hrt, but I am very close to starting it. I have to listen to some info that DB just posted about --some lectures on hormone therapy and bone health. It is just a few posts down, if you haven't seen it. Take care.

Hi Taape: I was just thinking about you as well, and hope you get good results from the dxa and new Endo.
I still haven't been able to confirm that info on Forteo's extended use, so I don't know what to think about the comment I got from another poster. Apparently her Dr went to a bone symposium and they discussed this option there. She doesn't know the name of the lecture or the society that held it, and I've scoured the Net looking for something on it. I'll ask my Dr tomorrow if she's heard anything. I suppose this Dr could have been referring to the intermittent dosage of Forteo and there was some communication breakdown, but I don't know that for sure either. This person claims that continuing beyond the 24 mos will be a possibility in the near future, so I don't know what to make of it.
I hope the above is correct, but I wondered if you can get a Dr that is amenable to the idea, and your insurance will pay for it, do you think they would consider it? Since Forteo has a black box warning I don't think you can sue Lily for any problems (if you had any) from extended use, so if you are willing to go for it, will they let you since they are protected from law suits anyway. Don't quote me on this legal issue, but I think that's how a black box warning works, it's been awhile since I was in the legal field.:(
I'll let you know what I find out from my Dr tomorrow.
Take Care... and the best of luck!!!:angel::angel:

Just curious. The last time I had a DEXA scan done my scores were given to me on the spot. Is this not standard practice at other facilities?

Thanks Desertbloom - if you can get me additional information tomorrow that would be great. I'd be willing to sign a waiver regarding the black box warning it's just that if Forteo continues to only be for short term treatment it hardly makes sense unless someone has a reversible condition.
Todd500 -I bet the technician had the results of the DEXA scan at the time I was still in the room but wasn't allowed to share these with the patient. At least she must have known generally if it was better or worse. If my doctor ordered it STAT then I would have heard right away. It's only a few days off now.
Osteoblast - it's suggested that I stay away from Hrt due to breast cancer in my immediate family and the high incidence in the area I live. When I took it for a week I got opposite symptoms and it gave me hot flashes. So I doubt this is an option.

My primary doctor wrote today saying that my hip got worse and my spine slightly worse. I don't have the T scores but will get them. Then she asked whether I want to do IV Bisphosphonates.
Well, I don't. So I guess I should ask if they can offer me any other treatment. I guess I should ask if they can again look to see if I have an underlying medical condition causing this. What do you guys think?
I'm still planning on following through with seeing the new local endo after I get the copy of the DEXA results.
