Hey Everyone,

Has anyone heard anything good about the new drug Remoxy ?? Its a oxycodone LA and I believe they are doing a LA morphine as well.. I have seen a little on it and aparantly its formulation prevents abuse.. I hope this will make docs less scared to Rx it.. Anyways, I wanted to put a bug in everyones ear about it.

I've been following this one too.

Apparently the oxycodone is mixed into a viscous gel that is very difficult to crush, inject, whatever, and get anything better out of it than if just taken by mouth.

However, the stock of the manufacturer, King Pharmaceuticals, recently dropped on word that another LA oxy product from Purdue Pharma LP may get to market almost a year ahead of Remoxy. So it's still uncertain if Remoxy will make it to market.

I was a little disappointed to read the Phase III testing description. Apparently it was only tested at doses from 10-80mg daily. For many CP patients, required doses are higher. If not tested at higher doses it will be very difficult to get the FDA to allow the med to be used for those who require higher doses. I don't think that bodes well for this drug.

The good news is that there are even more new opioid drug candidates in various trials that may get to market in the next two to five years. Mostly of the abuse resistant variety.

I am suprised that nobody has started selling an oxycodone product with Naloxone in it... apparently, naltrexone is inactive if taken by mouth, so it doesnt nterfear witht e actions of the drug if taken as directed, but if injected, it blocks all the effects of the oxy.

That's one of the new ones on the way.

Isn't the Purdue version called Oxytrex? Or did that one not make it past phase three trials?

Hahaah!

Naltrexone is like our Kryptonite... LOL But joking aside We need something abuse resistant that doctors might possibly get a little more comfortable working with. I know im my state KY im stuck with the Patch.. Which im happy with but I hate having to worry if its staying stuck on or if im sweating to heavy.. Or ohhh shoot I just bump that wall I better check my patch to make sure it isnt damaged.. My doc was completely honest when she RX'd it too me and stated it was not that she didnt trust me it was that she wanted to fly "under the radar".. I cant blame her wanting to protect her liscense..

Its disgraceful that the DEA/Police involve them selves in doctors prescribing. Even if a doctor is being a bit too easy with scripts for narcotics or tranquilisers or whatever, it should be an issue for the health department/medical registration board, not the police, any more than excissive prwescribing of blood preasure pills or antibiotics would be
