Hi, I quickly wanted to reply to some of what is said here. I am also deaf with hearing aids in both ears. My hearing aids are old now, and I cannot afford a new pair. I have been trying to find a job, but everything that I see, you need your ears for. I did childcare for years when my kids were small, but now I've gotten too old for that kind of work, and have been going down hill financially every since I quit. I have tried also to collect social security, and they denied me. They say I can work in a quiet enviroment with my hearing loss, but gave me no help in trying to find a job at such. I contacted a lawyer, and his response was if you can hear with new hearing aids that meet your needs, then go get a new pair, and go get a job. I guess because of my age at 48, he said that is also a problem trying to collect social security. Well I can't afford new aids, so that is out, now I'm back to square one again. I really think the next president needs to do something to help people who are deaf. It seems we are the forgotten ones. Insurance's won't cover hearing aids, we can't collect disibility. What do we do? If there is work out there for people like me, please let me know. I've tried so many times to find help, but can't find anyone. We are about to go bankcrupt because my husband's overtime was cut six months ago, and I am not able to help out with the bills.
