I recently have become sexually active with someone and about a week after we first had sex I began to develop a frequency to urinate. I went to my family doctor and he diagnosed it as a "urinary tract infection" and prescribed the antibiotic "cipro" for five days but the symptoms did not cease. He performed a urine test which showed no bacteria. This has been going on for about three weeks now. I have an urgency to urinate and a tingling sensation in my vaginal area and (i think) swollen glands in my vaginal area with no other symptoms. The mornings seem to be better. My boyfriend doesn't have any symptoms and he hasn't been with anyone else for eight months and neither have I. Still, could I have herpes or maybe a yeast infection or something else entirely. Would the cipro have taken care of a yeast infection? Would a yeast infection last this long? Please help.

Cipro can cause yeast infections, though your symptoms don't sound like yeast. Herpes usually don't cause urinary frequency, not mine anyway!!! The tingling sensation and swollen glands sounds like it could be a possible herpes OB in the works, or maybe even genital warts. With both of these viruses symptoms can lie dormant for a long time...sometimes even a life time. That could be why your boyfriend doesn't have symptoms. The best advice is to get a full check up. Though without actual bumps present herpes and genital warts can go undiagnosed. Hope this helps a little!!!
