A few years back, I was bad, and had unprotected oral sex with a guy on one drunken night. Anyway, to make a long story short, I got herpes. My symptoms were a classic case of HSV1, and since then, (this was six years ago) I have only gotten 2 cold sores since. My question is, is it possible that I have HSV2 instead of HSV1? If the HSV2 virus is in my body, wouldn't I have gotten some kind of genital herpes by now? Do the sores only return to the area where they initially invaded? If so, could I have HSV2 in my body? I am afraid! I have learned my lesson since that night, and I have never gotten anything down there, not even a yeast infection, ever. I am so happy I never had sex with this guy, he turned out to be a jerk, but I am still worried.

It might be HSV2 orally seeing as how you caught it from giving him oral sex. However, no need to worry about it transferring to your genitals. It will stay around the mouth/face region. The only way it could spread to your genitals is if you touched your mouth during a cold sore attack and then touched your genitals. One key note though--I would really be cautious about giving people oral sex because if you do indeed have hsv2 you could give them genital hsv2. that wouldnt be a good thing.
