My 57-year-old, post-menopausal mother awoke last night with severe chills and, in turn, developed shortness of breath. I wanted to take her to the ER, as these can be symptoms of a heart attack, but she refused. She slept a few hours, only to find the chills returning (occuring now). I read that this can be a menopause symptom. She also has had ongoing back pain. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a kidney or bladder infection
see a doc

Thank you kindly for your reply, Hopesprings2. You're exactly right - Mom went to the urologist today, and severe bladder/kidney infection confirmed. Likely culprit - recent dental work.
