I was just diagnosed with genital herpes and had my first outbreak just shy of two weeks ago. It was horrible and I ended up in the hospital with a catheter because I couldn't pee on my own. Now most of the lesions are gone and the last couple that are healing itch unbearably bad. Like I haven't been able to sleep through the night without waking up to itch and I can't sit still, etc.
Without having to go back to the doctor is there a way I can sooth the itching? and how long does this stage typically last?
Thanks so much everyone :)

depends on if it is from yeast or just healing sores. I would try some monistat at night and see if that helps you get thru. Did the doc prescribe any valtrex or zovirax?
This is a little embarrassing... I know some times I have not cleaned well enough down there and need to get a mirror to double check. That (for me) mimicks the itching

This may sound extremely strange, but this advice was given to me nearly 40 years ago when I first contracted herpes. Mine shows up only on my lower back, so this isn't quite as painful as it might be for you. Cheap nail polish remover applied with a clean cotton ball will sting like heck for a couple of minutes, but it seems to kill the bugs on the surface and for me itching always stops! Good luck. You might try just a teeny bit to see if you can stand the stinging.

no, no,no don't put fingernail polish remover in that area. the sores are healing. they will go away soon. ask for valtrex continuslyto prevent more obs. the first ob is the worst. sorry. just had to add that.

Also Papertiger, I read that peeing in water, like a bath, helps alot with not feeling the sting. Good luck babe! I heard the first OB is the worst but they get more and more scarce! My BF has had this for 7 years and he has maybe ONE outbreak a year. Stay strong and stress free (well TRY to!). You will overcome this. I wish you the best of luck!
