Hi,
My husband has a bad case of the chicken pox. He didn't have them as a kid and he was vaccinated, but he got chicken pox before he could get the booster shot. His doctor has him on acyclovir.

The rash is really bothering him. He tells me that he itches and hurts so badly that he cannot get any rest and can't find a comfortable place to lay. What can I do for the rash? It also has him very embarressed, since he is a grown man.

He has extreme fatigue and a high fever too. What can I do for that? He is laying in bed and I have given him Tylenol, but it doesn't seem to be helping much!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Alicia, it's always worse when an adult gets the chicken pox. It makes them a lot sicker then it does children. You can have him try soaking in oatmeal baths. It helps with kids, but I don't know how it works for adults. Also, try a little rubbing alcohol on some of his blisters and see if this helps, if so you can start applying it to appropriate places throughout the day. Don't put it near the genitals or anus. Hope this works. Take care and good luck!!

I had a really bad case of the 'pox in 1990.

Went down to 98 pounds----had 'em in the throat, eyeballs, everywhere.

I was blown off when I called my doctor's office but finally got a county health nurse to stop by the house. She said it was the worst case she had ever seen.

I got anitbiotics to help with all the infections from the pox, but wish that I had had and anti-viral from the start.

It took about 3 weeks for the pox to go away. Hang in there and insist on medical care if you need it.

Mutz.
